Trinity Mirror have apparently ceased efforts to muscle into the printed business directory market, the demise of 'The One' was confirmed by 2 separate sources within the company. Poor advertising sales for the half-dozen Scottish pilot directories means their nationwide expansion has gone into full reverse. The directories may re-appear as advertorial-laden supplements within their newspapers but the directory aspect of the publication has been laid to rest.
What happens to the domain purchased to house the online version (TheOne.com) remains unclear.
UK local search practitioners will undoubtedly be pleased to see a potential competitor being extinguished. We're left wondering when the UK local press will 'get it'.
