Setting up mailboxes

What's the best way?

Hi,

I've recently thrown myself into the deep end by renting a RedHat server without a web GUI for config. I've got everything up and running as it should be apart from email accounts.

I've got sendmail configured to accept mail to all of the domains on the system that will have mail accounts. All addresses are currently mapped to my user account on the box. What's the best way of providing other users with access to mailboxes? I'm not sure how the whole virtual user/mailbox system works, I assume they will all need a user account on the box in order to pick up mail? What's the most secure way to provide this?

Here is what we did:

- Qmail - for doing virtual domains
- Vmailmgr - for delivery
- SquirrelMail - for webmail

Works like a charm.

I have a few users who use POP to get mail off my box and that's it. As a quick setup I just created their user accounts, set their shell to /bin/noshell.

I'll second using Squirrel mail for webmail. As a plus it has an easy command prompt setup.

Postfix + MySQL + SquirrelMail + Courier IMAP

native maildirs, vmailbox size patches, extensive sanity checks and AHBL verification in place.
