Using Redhat9 and different email clients

I'm running Redhat9 and cannot, no matter what email client I use, get my email account fully setup. Sending mail (SMTP)is not a problem, but recieving mail always fails with various error messages. My ISP uses POP for incoming mail. Any suggestions? Perhaps a suggestion of another email client (although I've tried most for Linux). Thanks

What are the error messages? That may provide some clues to work with.

I'll try to explain this: I'm using Evolution and when I configure the account editor under recieving mail I have this selected: Server Type POP
Server Name: myhost.net

password etc.

When it's configured that way, I get no response nor error message, but if I change the server name to pop.myhost.net I get the error message that the password is bad for username@pop.myhost.net - oboviously the pop should not be in the email account. I'm just trying different settings and my configuration on the windows side doesn't work in linux. Sorry, but I'm only days into linux

Thanks

In evolution settings, enter (as the login name) yourname@yourhost.com, the server name should be the one provided by your ISP (pop.yourhost.com).

starec - thanks for trying to help but that didn't work. I entered the info as you suggested and came back with the following error message. Password incorrect for username@host.com@pop.host.com. Da, I can understand that. I've tried every setting I can think of and as I mentioned I may be new to Linux but I've set up hundreds of Windows side email accounts. Just can't figure this out and it's irritating the heck out of me. I want to make the complete move to linux but without functional email I'm having doubts.

What are you trying as your username...? Your user name is username. The hostname is host.com . The email address is username@host.com. The pop server is pop.host.com.

To get email which would be sent to username@host.com you should connect to pop.host.com with the user name username.

And double check you have the correct username/pass by using a different email client.

Looking at my own Evolution set-up for a Pop account, here's what I have for an e-mail address of the form me@myisp.net:

server type: POP
Host: mailhost.place.myisp.net
username: me
use secure connection: whenever possible
authentication type: password

It works. I just downloaded and deleted a whole bunch of spam from it. (I don't use the address, have never given it to anyone, have never written it down myself, etc, etc. Yet it has gotten spam every day since I signed up for the service. Thank heavens I run my own servers and get my real mail elsewhere!)

Thanks for everyone's help. I've tried all the different setttings I can think of but still cannot recieve mail. I don't think it's anything i'm doing wrong so I'll just get my mail on the Windows side. Thanks again
