I have no problem to manage Linux servers, but have no experience on Ensim, Plesk or Cpanel. The server would be used to server about 10 domains initially. I will need to install some of my own perl packages and other sofeware. I guess root access is needed. Which one should I choose? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
On the whole, I prefer Ensim over Plesk - there are more features accessible from the control panel and it has a more intuitive interface.
If you're installing your own software then you will need root access, but this is provided with rackshack servers.
Check out the forums at rackshack - there's a huge amount of info there on all the control panels and the contributors are almost as helpful as they are at webmasterworld!
To be honest, I doubt I'd use it if they did. Ensim itself has a backup manager to save/restore all configuration data for your domains, resellers, etc. And I run a scheduled job to backup all my databases nightly and FTP them back to myself. I can sticky you with the details if you're interested.
