I already know that Phat Linux is not a good example of a Linux

But the idea behind Phat Linux is a good one. Provide a reasonable facsimile of Linux to Windoze users that want to try Linux before they makethe switch.

Unfortunately, I can't find anyone that has managed to get Phat up and running on XP Pro or Home without converting to FAT32, something most Windows users don't want to do.

The info page at Phat site says that it will work with XP. Anyone tried it yet and managed to get it working? I've tried several times on 3 different PCs that run XP Pro or Home and it simply won't work.

Perhaps a more fruitful strategy would be to try out a couple of the live CDs [dmoz.org]?

As it stands last time I checked Linux does not yet have write support for NTFS. It has somewhat stable read support via an additional kernel module but it doesn't seem to be standard in most distros.
