I am new to dedicated servers. (I always used a shared hosting service before)

My question is I have 2 options to choose from Linux Redhat 7.3 or FreeBSD 4.8? Can anybody out their tell me which is better?

Thanks :-)

Chose the company that offers the most reliable service.

If your two choices are offered by the same company, then many people would opt for FreeBSD. While Linux was developed with a wide audience and their various needs in mind, FreeBSD has put more of a focus on speed and reliability in the networking sector. The differences are probably only detectable by an expert, but if you have a situation where everything else is the same, they might well end up as the deciding factor.

Thank you very much. That is exactly the info I need. I will try the FreeBSD one.
