Anyone know a dummy proof network configuration tool for Debian?

I've used always etherconf; it's for setting up a network card, if that's what you need.

That would actually be ideal, but I am looking for something that is stand alone -- something that could run without poking in on 'debconf/config.dat' and 'dpkg/status'. I guess I could just right a little script.
