Verizon is blocking port 80 but I want to try another port

Verizon "officially" informed yesterday that they are blocking port 80, at least in NYC. Needless to say, this cramps my style, but I would like, if possible to test my website. I don't think I can't force my domain to any port but 80, through DNS, but I wonder if I can test my static IP addy using the following hypothetical?

0)Verizon has assigned me a static IP addy of 65.xxx.xxx.xx.
1)Set Apache to listen to port 80.
2)Set "IP forwarding" on my Linksys router, to forward port 8080 to the IP of my Apache machine, and "apply" it. This IP is hopefully, something like 192.168.1.201.
3) On another machine, either on my LAN, or on the WAN, type in 65.xxx.xxx.xx:8080, to see if my website comes up.

THANK YOU ALL for all your help!

You could also have
http://mycomputer.mydomain.com:8080/ ... and yes, setting the port forwarding from any other port on the linky (ie: 81, or 8080) to port 80 on your machine would work just fine.
