For this special slackers edition I am going to place two links to very well-established sites -- in fact, you could call them major portals of open source activity. Most competent geeks know and frequently browse these sites, but in the operate of being a slacker I am going to mostly these sites for those of you who are either new the open source world or just too lazy to hunt for your own resources.

Link 1
DistroWatch [distrowatch.com] is a great place to do some research on your favorite Linux distributions. It has comprehensive software tables comparison for many distributions, great interviews and a very organized classification system which makes it easy to determine which distribution that would best suit your needs.

Link 2
FreshMeat [freshmeat.net]
They say it better than I could...

freshmeat maintains the Web's largest index of Unix and cross-platform software, themes and related "eye-candy", and Palm OS software. Thousands of applications, which are preferably released under an open source license, are meticulously cataloged in the freshmeat database, and links to new applications are added daily.

Freshmeat is an amazing resource; it is what download.com would have been if it paid attention to the open source community. Chances are you will find the application you are looking for there...
