KDE pushing the *nix desktop

The developers of KDE are pushing corporate use of the *nix desktop. They are launching a .campaign they are calling KDE::Enterprise [enterprise.kde.org] and builded a site to highlight the viability of the desktop and it's applications.

The aim of this site is to present KDE and relevant information and resources to demonstrate it's usage in a business or enterprise. KDE is a very powerful platform that runs on a number of Operating Systems which provides a unified look and feel with a number of powerful technologies. These technologies can be used by businesses in a number of ways, and we will present business cases where KDE has been utilized successfully.

I wish them the best of luck in their conversion process, but I don't think they will need it. KDE2.1.1 is a fine product, it is intuitive, and I believe users of windows and MACs will appreciate it's functionality. Really what they need is to get more people to give it a test drive.

It's a cliche, but until there's an office suite that truly competes with M$ then no desktop will make much of a splash.

KOffice1.0 looked promising but was (for me) very unstable. I'm about to upgrade to Mandrake 8.1 which includes KOffice 1.1, so we'll see...

I haven't tried it but staroffice6 [sun.com] is suppose to be a big improvement over 5.2.
