The aftermath of running fsck under VMWare

A lot of programs segfault now, anybody knows what can I do to rescue the system. I have a full backup which is 1-2 weeks old. Tried to do somthing like find /dir -exec diff {} /mnt/{} \; but it says a lot of binary files differ.

Anybody got an idea? I can still use the apt/dpkg tools fortunately.

Doh, got it. I ran fsck (without VMWare, of course) it stuffed /lost+found with a lot of files, most looked like nodes. I tried with overwriting /dev and it looks OK now.

I ran fsck once on a mounted drive and it gave me a funny warning.
Paraphrasing:
"Some knucklehead (You!) is running fsck on a mounted drive..."
Made me laugh.

Actually it was mounted read only (in the emulation) but I guess it did something wrong with the ext3. I've ran fsck on an ext2 filesystem under VMWare and it worked OK.
