:)As if we needed more MS vs. Linux discussion...

"In terms of growing the company ... It would be difficult if Linux were to become a phenomenon on the desktop," Connors said in a Web cast from the Credit Suisse First Boston annual technology conference in Scottsdale.

If it could hurt the growth of MS's profit rate from 85% upwards, that can't be bad!

Linux on the desktop, even if it is only with a market share of maybe 15-20%, would deal a major blow to MS monopoly and hence their ability to maintain the extreme profit rates they have had on the Windows and Office. With those two money cows their ability to enter new markets like embedded systems, cell-phones, game-boxes etc, will be limited, as they can only sustain heavy losses there because they have monopoly assured high income rates from Windows and Office.

With a market share of 95+%, MS can only loose, so any alternative in the Desktop OS and Office markets will hurt MS.
