I'm new to ftp - this is the first time I have ever attempted to set up an ftp server. After a bit of reading around, I got the good news about proFtpd, and saw that it was already an integral part of the Debian 3.1 install.
I'm having a bit of trouble with the setup, though. What I would like to do is create a new account (user) for everyone who wishes to upload to my server, but limit each to a single directory reserved exclusively for that one user. I've read around for most of the day, but to date have not found an easily comprehensible way of going about this.
Has anyone any method, suggestion or reading material that they can offer? Thanks very much in advance.
I also found another solution through the Plesk control panel interface (creating new "web users" that have each their own "jail" directory - though by what means I have yet to discover as Plesk uses only proFtpd), but I had to "tweak" the permissions (through modifiying Plesk-configured groups command line) of certain "web users" to make them admins.
All this just for informational value as I found the solution to my own problem - but if anyone has any insight into the workings of all this, I would much be obliged.
Thanks, and take care.
