Ubuntu " Read-only file system"

I am trying to copy to an external media device and i can't because it's "Read-only file system", how do i make the drive writable and place files on it?

Following up on this, i searched the internet and messed around a little this kind of worked against me.

Everytime i enter the external hard drive i get an error "Failed to mount device"!

SOmeone please help.
