How to tell if sendmail is sending emails?

Hi,

I am getting lots of spam that appears to be coming from my servers.

Is there a way to see if the email actually did come from my servers?

I have looked in /var/log/maillog but it does not seem to say? (or I dont know how to look)

I am using Fedora Core 4 with sendmail and UW IMAP.

Thanks

That would be useful for me to know as well! Someone hijacked my Perl contact form recently which was using Sendmail - so I had to take it down.

Another issue that I have at the moment with Sendmail is that most of the times I receive an email, it comes over twice. As I said, that happens most of the times, but not always! I use the Pegasus client and whenever I get the duplicate email it also seems that one of the duplicate emails is slightly bigger i.e. 0.1 to 0.5 kilobytes more; both emails also have identical date/time stamp. This looks to me like a config rather than a spam issue and although not as critical, I would still like to know how to fix that - which will also save me a few kilobytes per day of wasted bandwidth.

Regards.

My host is having that problem, too, although it only affects a small(ish) number of emails. I'd be interested to know if someone could shed some light on it, because the host has not been able to figure it out yet.

Hehe, I, on the other hand haven't even reported it to my host yet, mostly because I know they won't bother much about something so relatively insignificant. Instead I tried to find an answer by Googling around - unfortunately, unsuccessfully so far.

Maybe is an known issue/bug with the particular version of Sendmail used by the host!? The latest one is 8.13.8, which I doubt if its anywhere near to the one my host uses. Maybe they believe if it ain't broke, don't fix it:)

Regards,
