RH 8.0 kernel 2.4.19 and Ext3 = kernel panic?

I am pissed and lost. I went through something like this when 7.3 came out. Had to use a development kernel for Ext3 support. Well, 2.4.19 has Ext3 built in. I checked it like in 7.3 and build the cursid thing all went well, or so I thought. Went to reboot and "kernel panic" cannot boot. I can only asume for whatever reason it is not using the Ext3 filesystem. Anyone else had this problem? I don't know much about this type of this and I am at a loss for an explnaion.

Far as I know a default Redhat install of 7.3 has ext3 enabled (I have one box running it with out a problem). The only time I had a problem with it was when I built a custom kernel. If I remember right both 2.4.18 and 2.4.19 default configs (from kernel.org) do not have it enabled. It has to be enabled before the build.

Ven, have you built ext3 support inline or as a module?

If it is a module the kernel has no way to mount its root fs to load the module, or may be a RedHat specific problem. Try to download the unmodified kernel source from ftp.kernel.org.
