Really, this relationship makes a lot of sense, I could even see them merging into a single company one day. Too bad they don't get together and launch a desktop campaign.

IBM is probably just as beholden to M$ in the desktop market as Dell and Gateway, unfortunately. Then again, IBM hasn't been big in the desktop market for a while, somaybe they could afford teh gamble of ditching windows entirely? I certainly don't have access to the IBM financial data on which to make that kind of prediction, though.

I'd love to see a big company making Linux desktops available. I suppose Wal*Mart counts as big, but they're hardly a player in the PC marketplace. If more pre-installed linux systems were out there, I think Linux would start to lose its ill deserved reputation as "hard to install". How many of these bozos have ever tried installing 2k from scratch?
