Linux IRC clients...

What are you using?
I've been using xchat-text, seems light and strait forward.

SO you've never heard of bitch-x?

Yeah, I know that is the 'cool' one to use, but my first impression was, "wow, what a mess." There are a few hundred commands in bitchx, I just feel like I shouldn't have to read the man page for an IRC client. I might jump into it again when I have some spare time.

What I did like though is Sirc, it was strait forward:
% sirc Nic domain.org
/join channel
done

Also, there is a Festival plugin so I could listen to IRC as I am working on something else. I know, it is really a geeky thing to do, but I've been learning stuff listening to the #DEBIAN irc channel.
