Yeah, real mythical. They want you to pay $99 to download it.

Open source is not LindowsOS compatable.

Cmon and reply so I can flame you!

No, I really want to know what makes it mythical.

First Open Source doesn't equal free. I believe most of the Open Source licenses don't restrict charging for products. You just have to supply the source code with the product.

I think part of the mystique surrounding Lindows is that they had action brought against them by Microsoft over their name, and won. Plus, in theory, it will eventually run most MS products, which would be cool for companies (and individuals) who may be in transition from Windows to Linux.

Let's try to avoid flaming.

Congrats to this being released! When I find some free time (/me looks under a rock) I will install the OS. It looks promising, the 99.00 is kinda steep but Im sure they have costs over their head since MS took em to court deal. Distribution costs and what not. I hope to see this one on the shelves. hMmm will it run on my Mac? ;)

Doesn't run on the Mac, but who needs to? ;)

What I would like to see (and couldn't find on the Lindow's site) is a comprehensive list of Win programs that run on Lindows. And how well they run.

Ok, sorry, I was a bit quick to jump to conclusions but I still don't trust anything resembling Linux that you have to pay for. From what I understand, this is a heavily modified Linux kernel made proprietary... and the source code is unavailable. Correct me if I'm wrong.

With that said, does anyone know where I could get some more information about "Lindows"?

Why are you welcoming me? Every time I post I get welcomed. This is creating an odd sense of 'hippiness' and 'evil' that truly disturbs me. Please, I am just a cretin like the rest of you.

You certainly are warakiya ;) Oh, welcome to webmasterworld!

Sorry, couldn't resist it. Has anyone downloaded this yet? I'd be very interested to get a WMW review of this little jobbie.

"the source code is unavailable"

Bradley Kuhn, vice president of the Free Software Foundation, says the organization is contacting representatives because the company has not included source code with its "sneak preview" releases. Lindows CEO Michael Robertson says his company will comply with the GPL when the product is released to the public.
