Hi.

I am new to this server game, I regularly feel the need to install Linux on my Laptop for learning purposes, but I was wondering whether there are any Linux drivers to support my hardware.

How does Linux work with a particular PC when there are not Linux drivers for the Hardware?

I've installed Mandrake on a Sony laptop without any problems.

Check out the listing for your laptop about half way down on this page [mandrakeuser.org]. It says that Mandrake 8.1 installed without much fuss. I am not sure about the other major distros, but they are likely to be compatible as well.

I have red hat running on an old Toshiba 410cdt, everything works except the sound. Even an old Caldera Linux version was running on it a few years ago for a while without problems.

I have no idea why you call Linux Mandrake but thanks anyway.

Downloading Linux from www.redhat.com is realy slow. (10 days 9 hours) or something.

Mandrake is a distribution of Linux, like Redhat. It is acclaimed for being very easy to install, and use.

I have installed Debian over a dialup link overnight a couple times; but installing Debian is not as easy as Mandrake, for example.

While you are learning, do yourself a favor and buy some disks (about 25 USD, if I recall right).

That is, if you don't have a fast link to download some ISOs and burn them yourself, I mean.
