had trouble getting XP to coexist with Linux. It turns out that I am not alone. XP simply doesn't like to share a hard drive with another operating system.

If he likes playing games, the PlayStation is quite good. But you wish to have a little pain in your life there's always the Xbox...

By the way, Josk, Windows 2000 and, I suspect, XP are *real* operating systems. I was about to give up on Windows forever, but got a new machine (a while back) with Windows 2000 and have found it the first MS operating system that didn't want to make me throw my computer out the window on a daily basis.

I have had some success with XP and Linux. However, I installed XP first - creating two partitions and installing XP on the first, leaving the second unformatted. I then installed Linux on the second partition. I installed LILO on the second partition as well, and made the second partition active. When I boot my machine, LILO kicks in and allows me to boot XP and Linux.
I ended up doing two reinstalls of Win2K before figuring this out. Let the Windows installer set up the partitions, and then and only then put Linux on.
