Samba set up and/or guide?

I am pretty new to Linux and am trying to network some machines

Just a quick question, and maybe someone can just point me in a direction. I run pc's at home and my wife has a Mac. I want to have file and print server capabilities so I turned an older machine into a linux box. I know that I need to set up Samba to do this, is there an easier way? If not, can someone point me to a basic set up process for Samba, I haven't had much luck thus far. Thanks for the help.

What distro are you using? I'm running Gentoo and Slackware at home, and I've found each of those distros have very helpful HowTo's. Have you checked with your distribution's wikis/forums/FAQs/etc for a guide on Samba?

I am running Fedora Core. I have looked a little at the help in the distro but being new to Linux its been a little uphill. I am sure that at some point I can get it worked out, didn't know if anyone had a shortcut or a good site to check with a setup guide or something. Thanks for the ideas though, I hadn't thought of wiki, etc.

While I have not used it, the Samba project has what looks like a decent online book on Samba deployment:

I believe you will need to set up Samba and a print server. CUPS is the most common, and is an incredible PITA to deal with, but being the most common it seems to have the most info available online.

An update:

I managed to successfully update my settings in the smb.conf file, and now I can see the server from my pc. However, I am having some permissions errors as it still won't let me open it. I did set up encrypted passwords on the linux box but to no avail. Still working, but getting closer...
