.Net Framework and C# running on Linux

Will Linux Developers embrace the Microsoft Framework?

The efforts of the Open Source project Mono have borne fruit. There is now an implementation of the .Net Development Framework.

The implementation includes a C# compiler, a set of class libraries and a runtime for the Common Language Infrastructure.

C# is the new language created by Microsoft to offer C++ developers greater productivity and to take full advantage of the Web services offered by the Microsoft's .NET Platform.

The C# specification were submitted to ECMA for standarization. The new compiler was developed from them.

C# sometimes referred to as the Java-killer because of the ease of transition for Java programmers to the new language.

This compiler helps ensure that sites using Linux stay in the mainstream of development.
