Hello

I'm new to this forum so excuse me if I make any mistakes.

My problem is MySql rcognition on my Mandrake 9 Linux distribution.

When I create a web page with PHP in it and I check it with:
[127.0.0.1...] it works perfectly well.
When I make some mysql test on the command mine I ge good results.

But when I enter a mysql_connect() function in my web page I get a fatal error message:

"Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() ..."

Wat is wrong with my installation?

Many thanks for your help
Roberto

Try running this command as root:
service mysald restart

See if that fixes it.

If not, try setting the hosts field of your mysql user to be 'any'.

I'm pretty sure this is not a serious problem, seen it myself a few times and these are the first things I look at.

(*)You should also seriously consider moving to 10.01 or better yet 10.2. The update features in these versions are far superior to those in 9. You can run a gui that auto checks for any updates to software installed on your server, then just hit 'install'.

Thanx wheel
I found the reason of my problem.
It was
php-mysql.mdk
which wasn't installed.
I installed it and now it works fine.

I'm running Mandrake 9 because I'm on an old Pentium III with only 128 Mo of RAM. The version 9 seems already a bit slow, I'm afraid that if I upgrade I'll be iN trouble

Hmmmm - I don't know if the newer versions are bigger or smaller. What I would suggest you try to speed things up might be to consider a custom compile of the kernel. Mandrake kernels are big piggies because they have all sorts of stuff built into them that you probably don't need. Doing custom kernel compiles is done for both speed and space - so you'd do well as a result (basically stripping all the drivers and options that are in the kernel right out).

(for example, IIRC, recent mandrake kernel compiles have large memory support built in - you clearly don't need that :) and could pull it out of the kernel).

thanx wheel

you certainly right, I think I have to try that.
I'm pretty new to Linux, thats why I'm making tests on that old machine.
I've installed M9 directly from the distribution CDs. I think its time I start trying to recompile the kernel ant to compile other stuff downloaded from the web.
