Ruby on Rails. Ajax

Anyone developing on this?

I found some links about Ruby and Ruby on Rails due to research on Ajax. It looks like Ajax works well on Rails. But that's about all I know. I'm using php and mysql almost exclusively these days. Planning to build a web app. Is it worth looking into Ruby and Rails to use as a platform? Will it help in implementing Ajax?

I wouldn't switch to RoR *just* for it's Ajax support. The Javascript library that ships with it (Prototype) does have some nice features, but it doesn't require Rails. You can use it with PHP or plain HTML.

PHP has several Ajax packages: JPSpan and SAJAX come to mind, with JPSpan being the more mature option.

I checked it out, played around, but wasn't too impressed. It's overrated.

I was reading the Ruby manual yesterday and it sounded like the typical oop hype I've been seeing in language after language for years now. Thinking that Rails goes on top of Ruby was giving me a headache about using this technology. Happy to see people working on a way to use ajax with php. Looks like it needs a lot of work but at you have to start somewhere.

What does look cool about rails is that webhosting company that seems to have the right platform for ruby/rails development. They seem to care about giving their customers what they need. Not a lot of hosts do this.
