the Xconfigurator is also not working in the terminal window
please let me know the reason ..

Unlike Windows and Mac, Linux does not automatically install any multimedia players, like Windows Media Player or Real Player, for example.

There are several multimedia players available for Linux, including Xine [xinehq.de], which do a fine job. You can also get a Linux version of Real Player [real.com], if you like that program.

Search SourceForge [sourceforge.net] or other repositories for some of these programs.

Technically, no operating system supports playback of multimedia files ... that is a task that's relegated to programs running on those operating systems.

There is nothing inherent in the MP3 format that would keep it from being playable on any OS with an appropriate player installed. The software handles the conversion.

With MPEG, there are ENcoding issues which pose a challenge for various hardware, like video cards, and there are DEcoding issues which pose a greater challenge for players, but in the end, the encoders and players can either handle the data or they can't. Again, not an OS issue.

Grab a multimedia player for Linux, and give it a shot.
