Browser Apps Won't load under user account

I'm running mandrake 10.1 Official (fresh install)
Konqueror wouldn't run as my user, but runs fine under root, as a temp fix, I downloaded my favorite browser, Firefox, and installed that (under root) to /usr/lib/firefox. Problem persists and Firefox will only run under root as well.

I orig. thought this was a perms problem, but I get no error messages, and kdeinit runs, and just sits as a running process until I get fed up with waiting and kill it.

i'd appreciate any sugestions and will give more information if the need be. I'm a moderate-beginer at linux, so their may be some easy things i just don't know about yet, (like file locations).. but I know my way around, so use moderate detail when you give me sugestions.
