Hi. I am completely new to linux. I have a big problem on my desk right now. My PC has XP already installed (NTFS). I used partition magic 8 to create a linux partition. After the partition process I installed SuSe Linux 8.1 but whenever I start my computer Windows XP is not available on Boot Menu list. How can I add my windows XP and boot on it.

I hope somebody can help me. Thanks in advance

I personally like the GAG boot loader. [gag.sourceforge.net...]

You can download an ISO of it, burn it to CD, or put it onto a floopy, and try it out first, to see if it will work on your system first before committing to using it. Takes about a second to install to the primary HDD, and then you get a (somewhat ugly) boot menu to pick your OS. :)

I use it for triple-booting my system (XP,FBSD 4.10, FBSD-CURRENT)

BootitNG is also pretty useful - also does partitioning and drive/partition imaging.

Sorry, I don't know why no one actually answered your question, too late now probably. You have to go into your lilo or grub configuration file and add the windows partition manually, then run lilo [if that's what your boot loader is], and you'll have your XP back.

Just search for this question, it's a very common problem, and is also very easy to fix. Get the exact syntax for your bootloader then edit the file, you have to be in su mode to do that.

SUSE is usually pretty good about adding your other os's to the bootloader, but I guess it's not perfect.

How if you use VMware software in your PC?

You can run Linux under Win XP, or other OS also...
It's nice and easy... I'm using it too...

umh... isn't SuSe the one with that Yast config thingy? Perhaps you can configure your boot loader through that. Just a thought anyway, perhaps it's totally wrong.

Oh, found a link for you... GRUB's the default from release 8.1 and yes, you can access it through the nice pointy-clikkety interface of Yast
