Can Fedora RPMs be used on older RH installations, or are they completely incompatible?

Depends on what dependancies the particular RPM has, in alot of cases you can use fedora RPMs on older Redhat installations, you might have to install some of the dependancies along the way.

Well, for something like upgrading PHP/Apache/MySQL/gd ...?

Well, that worked just fine, actually...

I now have the latest Apache/Perl/PHP/gd installed ... all from Fedora
But MAN was it a pain to get some of the dependencies to work properly, since they don't come with the same libraries in Fedora vs RH.
