Boston Group, a management consulting firm, was interested in lessons their clients could learn from the f/os community.
To their surprise the surveyors found beating Bill a minor motivation for geeks - having fun, getting stimulated by exchange with others and getting immersed in the code were the most offered reasons for involvement.
The whole thing is rather hilarious - should perhaps been in Foo - but is worth a read anyway.
