Sun has managed to oust Microsoft from its position as provider of desktop software to Allied Irish Bank (AIB), and has secured the deal to supply its Java Desktop System (JDS) to the bank's 7,500 desktop users.

A very interesting development and definitely one in the eye for MS, who have traditionally had quite a strong following in the Irish financial sector.
There has been no announcement about how much the deal is worth, but it should come out soon as the AIB is a publically listed company.

Interstingly, the AIB workforce is more than 7500 people in Ireland alone, so this is not for the entire staff. Still a very exciting move.
