Can Mod re-write hide your IP?

Just chatting to a chap at a hosting co who mentioned that "apparently" mod-re-write can be used to disguise ur IP address.

If so this would possibly eliminate the need for multi IP hosting which is becomming a popular topic for helping with google serps.

anyone shed any light on this?

I guess you could hide the actual IP that it lives on by proxying, but other than that, don't really see what they mean.
