Howdy,

I want to tighten up security on my linux box by limiting access for telnet root logins by IP address.

I have dynamic IP addressing now with my ADSL isp and they charge way too much for a static IP.

Does anyone know of an off site independent service or way I could log onto a server, from my existing dynamic IP adsl connection, and on that server have designated for me a static ip with which I can use to connect to my server via telnet? Can that be accomplished by a proxy server?

If such a service exists what is it called so I can google it to find service providers for this?

Thanks anyone.

Actually I just read about tzo Dynamic DNS services pretty in expensive 59 a year...

BUT, would this be a secure way to solve my problem? Or would it do what I want to do, allow me to use the dynamic IP to login via telnet via static ip from dyn dns server to my web server which is co located off site?

Dynamic DNS. I don't know tzo, but it might be okay. Also, i think the DynDNS service might be able to do what you want.
