Is it okay if websites are sending backlinks to my ip address, not to the domain? And when the website is redirected to ip address, not to my homepage? I see my rankings are going quite well by using this. Can someone please tell me, if my theory is correct and if redirecting links on ip address of my website works in a long-term perspective? Does your site have a fixed, permanent IP address? If not, what happens when it changes?

But above all: Why on earth are requests for the bare IP address allowed to go through, rather than being canonicalized along with any and all other requests?

I have a dedicated IP address for my site. I do not allow request by IP alone. That's why there's a canonical example.com!

The OP may have resolved their issue after 5 months, it is possible they have no further interest. I can tell you that if you avoid a domain canonical redirect it will have the undesired long term effects of seeing each version of your domain as duplicate content.

To Google these are all different domains:
http://example.com
https://example.com
http://www.example.com
https://www.example.com

Cause IP address is what computer uses; Domain names is what human-readable format of IP
