I have a blog on construction. It's DA is 22. I write articles once or twice a month. As of now, I haven't invested much time in link building. Recently, I have written a blog post on the topic "What is the difference between ABC & XYZ Widgets" and now I want to create backlinks specifically to this blog post so as to rank higher. The keyword I am targeting is the "difference between ABC & XYZ widgets". This keyword has very low competition and the competitors are having no backlinks at all. What should I do to create backlinks for this article?

Please do not give general advice, as I already know them.

As you mentioned the competition is low, still you're not rising in top searches. There might be a few reasons - less content count, improper keywords integration, keyword chunks not used etc. Rather you can gain quality backlinks through creating established profiles on High DA PA sites. Document sharing is also one of a good option to drive traffic.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but with the help of profile we can only make backlinks for home page only. Also, can you pls provide me more information on how this document sharing works. Details would be appreciated!

Profile links are not backlinks. Backlinks are not something you create this way. They have no more backlink value than a paid newspaper announcement.

You may possibly gain a visitor from either of those efforts who might create a backlink from their domain if they find your content to be exceptional or valuable to their own visitors.

Ok, if profile creation are not backlinks and are of no use. Then should I just write content and sit down?

should I just write content and sit down?
Have you tried visiting other sites that share some facet of their content with your site? If you write about blue widgets and they write about light blue widgets and yellow widgets, it makes sense that your visitors might be interested in their content and their visitors might like to see your site too. It is one step at a time, but as you try it out, you will learn how to get better at your efforts and how and where to get even better recommendations.

Research others that have something in common with your content. Traditionally, those are people who would consider linking to your site. Interact with them, with their site (not dropping links) but to look for opportunities. Contact some related sites, maybe with a real question you have about something on their site. Working toward ways to benefit both sites helps you much more than hooking up with automated backlink sellers. Each link you do get has higher value than getting a self created link from high authority sites by leaving a sig file or profile link. Those kinds of links have long held low (or no) value. Numbers of backlinks are not as important as the quality of each one. One good link has more value to you than thousands of cookie-cutter self created links. A dozen good links in a year is time well spent.

I would add that good ways to find opportunities are scattered all through this Link Building [webmasterworld.com] forum, even 10 minutes a day can help you with ideas - once you learn to sort out worthwhile efforts from common fallacies.

Good advice from not2easy, but i'd add there is no quick fix to this.

Start talking to those in a similar business. Sometimes it opens up opportunities, and you get a link because someone thinks your content is worthwhile. You have to work at it as part of a marketing strategy.

Links in irrelevant sectors are worth very little, and may do harm, so don't waste your time trying.

Think of links as being naturally developed as you cannot add links to gain value.

Use social media to help get the message out there, but don't just post your stuff, start interacting with people in your sector.
