Hi,
been out of SEO for a while and just starting up again.
What would you recommend as the best UK Local / National Resources to give a new site its initial oomph Links-wise?

Let's hope this thread doesn't turn into a bun fight...
Nick - this forum tries hard not to let people plug products, so the response might be slightly more muting / general than you might hope.
I'll start with a tactic though. Put your Keyword into Google, pull the top 10 results, look at all of THEIR links and see which sites link to 5 or more of the top 10.

Thanks for the quick reply Dixon, I perhaps should have worded the resources as Directory Listings. Back in the day MOZ Local had a UK resource that placed you in a range of UK directories but they appear to have stopped that now.
Is the best free backlink checker MOZ?

@NickfromMarketing ...

Welcome to Webmasterworld!

Link building is a topic that gets all over the place when discussed here, but the one consensus is that any links need to look natural, and the best are actually natural. :)

Authority is also a great help.

g has changed how links are valued over the years. Their algo has matured enough to spot bad linking practices, et al.

Good luck!

The best links come from industry appropriate sources, I could direct you to some very valuable resources but only if you were working in my area of the music industry..

It is your subject matter expertise that will find you the worthwhile links not generic SEO.

As other posters have mentioned, the generic shotgun approach to link-building might not deliver the oomph you're looking for. Directories can still be ok but look at industry specific or more localized options ( depending on your business ). Reverse-engineering top competitors is never a bad place to start.
