Do Google Shopping links count as backlinks?

Hi all, I'm really struggling to find an answer to this question and forgive me if it is a very dumb question, but will a google shopping link - if copied by somebody and posted as link - count as an ordinary backlink? My gut feeling is yes, but I don't think I've ever seen this mentioned or confirmed.

Thanks in advance for your answers (and any possible insults :) )

Al

Hi alanVP and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

If it even does qualify as a backlink, I'm sure the link juice has been significantly reduced by the Google algo. That would be like Google eating its own tail.

I wouldn't count on much benefit in that regard. Look for real backlinks from real people from real sites to have any impact.

Hi Alan,
The thing people miss about links is that a link from a strong URLis what you are looking for. A Google shopping page is not strong, because Google’s biggest pages do not link (e cept in a search result). Now - if the google shopping page (if there is one)linked directly to your listing, and nothing was nofollowed, your link would be worth loads. As the is (probably) no route for a crawler to click its way to the shopping page from a big page, you don’t get much value. That said... i expect a great publicity piece linking through to the shop could tip the balance, but then the power is coming from the articles that link to the shop page, not the shop page itself.
