In 2005, Tew was obsessed with one thing: making money, enough to pay his way through a three-year business management course at Nottingham University. For most young people, that would mean taking on a part-time job or going to the bank. But not for Tew, a 21-year-old budding entrepreneur from Wiltshire, England, who created the Million Dollar Homepage and peddled internet advertising space on it at $1 a pixel in 10 by 10 blocks.

I still remember the million dollar home page, ever media house across the globe had covered it. There were a couple of clones after it as well.

I rember after the media coverage there was a hosting service customer forum that got post after post from people who wanted to do the same thing. Same class of people who would create a page with a nothing but a couple of affiliate links them complain a week later that they weren't making any money.

But a link on the original million dollar page have been very good for SEO. It had tons and tons of incoming links from the NYT to CNN to Chinadaily. All had linked it.
