Too Many Links From 1 Domain?

Hi

I need some feedback about an issue I have with my website.

Some guy placed my link on a directory website (sitewide) and it built up 3000 backlinks to my homepage within a 5 day period. I managed to contact the owner and got all links removed 3 days after it was placed so its not there anymore.

My site is only 15 days old but now I am thinking I will get a major penalty for this. What do you guys think?

Welcome to webmasterworld! I think you might be a bit premature worrying about a penalty. You'll need several months traffic data to make that determination. Be patient.

I am tracking my keywords and will obviously be able to see a penalty if my keywords drop out of the top 300 results.

I was hoping for feedback from other webmasters/seo experts if its likely to happen given my situation.

Your site is too new to accumulate any kind of penalty. Just keep building and encouraging word of mouth referrals and most importantly acquire endorsements from authoritative influencers in your space. You'll be good as gold.

The conclusion doesn't follow from the premises. Where Google is concerned, "penalty" has a pretty narrow meaning. Not all Bad Things That Happen are the result of a penalty.
