Can too many links from one site harm you?

I saw a post the other day (I can't remember which one it was now), but it was about a guy who had rotating banner ads on his site, and the advertisers had become unhappy because it was creating too many backlinks pointing to their site.

so i got thinking about my own links, and then I realised that I had 5,000 links pointing to my own site from just one place.

there's nothing dodgy about the site in question. it's just a shopping site that points some links back to mine. they are actually quite good links. but they appear on every single page of their site, and they are all 'follow'

i don't want to lose the links, but do you think i should ask them to 'nofollow' them? or would you worry about 5,000 nofollowed links too?

If it ain't a bad neighborhood, spammy, or other evil, I'd leave it alone. But you might want to make sure it's not just a footer link ... that's not quite as happy time. If linked from valid article to valid article on your site, then grab a brew (beer, coffee, or tea) and don't worry about it.
