Why are backlink counts almost non-existant?

I have been using [seocentro.com ] this online tool to check the number of backlinks but now like other online checkers, the don't seem to give any accuracy at all. I even checked yahoo and it only came up with about 30 backlinks on bing.

Is there something out there that can give me a total of backlinks on yahoo, google and bing for a domain?

Google on provides a small sample of links publicly
Yahoo recently shut down providing link data
I didn't think Bing provided any backlinks publicly
AltaVista is no more
I haven't checked Blekko recently

So don't expect much from that tool.

Your best bet is to register as a webmaster with Google and Bing. They will then provide you with more detailed link reports.

Or you can pay for data from sources like Majestic SEO (free if it's your own domain).

Hi Tiger,

Thanks so much for the information. I guess everything is going to cost. I remember back in the 60's where they started with the coin mechanism on bathrooms. What's next. LOL.

Thanks again for your time.
