Hi Guys

Like everyone we all like traffic.

They say inwards links from another website is a good way..

My site is an ecommerce site selling my own unique product. I do not want to include links on it, as I think that would detract from my site and make it look like a money making venture.

So why would another website want to link to me.

I would be prepared to offer some sort of incentive, but how can you find sites to do this.

They might want to link to you because they think their readers would be interested in your product. They might link to you because they have reviewed your product. They might link to you because they list businesses in your geographical area. They might link to you because they list businesses that do what you do. There are many reasons...

I do not want to include links

A few quality outgoing links may help you - if you have none then your site is an internet cul de sac which SE's may think less of.

Consider why you might link out, and see if you could replicate that.

It makes good sense to link out to anyone who has nice things to say about your product, which is another reason that having no outbounds is a little strange. So, consider whose ego you could stroke, and who deserves credit for providing your inspiration, if it applies.

Hey Digmen1,

you seem al ittle desperate right now, but I think you're definitely on the right track. I think the question you used as the title of this thread is the question that anyone should ask themselves. Why (in the world) should anyone want to link to my website? If you ask yourself that question, you should be able to come up with some kind of solution if youre c reative with it.

For e-commerce sites it's obviously harder, but if youre c reative you can come up with some stuff...if you have a membership site or something like that you can make access to it free for a while. Ive seen some people use that tactic, and the thing is...most webmasters never go back to change their links ;-).

Ok guys,

You have encouraged me to try for some links.

I am not desperate, but everyone, everywhere seems to be saying get links. It is just that as my site just sells one product I do not want to clutter it with superflous links that may distract people and even make them navigate away from my site !

Is is just a case of contacting webmasters and asking them ?

Will I need to make them an offer or should I wait for them to say what they would like ?

Kind Regards
Digby

Sorry didnt mean desperate in a negative way, really :-)

"Is is just a case of contacting webmasters and asking them ? "

I'd say it is about what you made the name in this thread (having a reason why other webmasters would want to link to your site)...AND...finding a way to let them know about it (contacting them for example).

if you just ask them but dont have a reason why they would link to your site, I think youre going to fail..though I have a friend who did just that and had no problem getting a couple dozen links that way and ranking for his phrases, but his niche consists of not-so-web savy people to say the least.

Open forward links in new window.
