Submit or not a new site to directories which have high PR? I mean mainly general PR 3-7 directories, not dmoz, yahoo.dir etc. I think submitting site to those directories will not cause any harm but is it worth doing that job (with roboform)? I don't trust directory submission services, tried many, made poor job.

It's difficult to get one way links from other same niche sites...

Sorry grammar errors.

PR is not a reliable guide to quality in any site, and may be artificially maintained by newish (paid for) directories, then allowed to sink after a few moths of fee-taking. A couple of years ago, this was a frequent 'game', though it's rarely profitable these days, so I think it's less common.

But provided you do not reciprocate the link, then a directory entry will virtually certainly do you no harm, and may do very well for you, especially if it's a niche or regionally directory.

PR has some value as a barometer, taken with other factors; for example, a new directory with a 'high PR' on its index page, but none on the category pages might make you think carefully.

Added to all this, SEs increasingly ignore directories. With very few (but notable) exceptions, general directories tend to have very, very little SEO value. And this is broadly reflected in PR; the trend, for the past couple of years, has been firmly downhill. I monitor a fair number of quality directories, and over the past few PR updates, those with falling PR outnumber those rising at almost four to one. A few have weathered the storm untroubled.

Many niche directories have remained stable, but you need to look at each one on their merits.

I look most closely at free directories, but my impression is that paid-for directories, by and large, have not bucked the trend.

Look at each on their merits; go for Quality.

who visits a directory sites? People don't go to the website directories to find something they need. they just go to the search engine and type some keyword.
But if you are talking about getting to the first page, pr4 or pr0 are helpful depending on the site. Forget about linking on the link Farm directories who has no exact and relevant categories.
I suggest that dont link in a directories at all..

As far as PR is concerned I'm a noob. Website since 1996 and never looked at what is called "PR". What I do know is that the content for my limited niche is always top of the list. I wonder if sometimes we try to hard...

So if I build site about pregnancy, you advice to submit that site only pregnancy directories and not general directories which have subcategory: pregnancy...?

Everybody knows that. I just try to find out how links from link directories affect positions at SE's.

Not quite :)

There are a handful of general directories that are probably worth the effort (and you are right - you'll need to go for the appropriate category, as well as following their guidelines.

But, perhaps overgeneralising here, I think it is likely that you'll get a better return on your investment (time and money, as appropriate), submitting to pregnancy and related niches (midwifery, medical etc), plus 'local' directories, where applicable.

There's still no guarantees; there are neglected and useless focussed directories ... but fewer spam directories - most spammers like to think big ;)
