Like I've said before, I don't particularly go in for link schemes myself. We do quite well getting high-value one-ways through semi-traditional means (a name drop for a service etc), plus plenty that arrive un-sought. However, I'm just interested in what others do. I've noticed people in the Google forum go on about being "White Hat" but in other places refer to Link Exchanges, Interlinking and other schemes.
Plus, it never hurts to have a few 'tricks' in your arsenal- as long as you know what they do, when they're for, and what it might cost you.
I'm puzzled as to why all the effort being put into building complex linking schemes that may or may not work now or in the future. Why not just put that same effort into developing one way inbound links?
my point exactly. Why complicate everything? lemme venture a guess. Because so many of you are paranoid about classic link building strategies such as reciprocal linking which was abused by blackhats.

When Google chops down the apple tree, how many apples can be collected in the future?
Natural, organic links work best in the long haul. Flash in the pan is like Hollywood actors: good for a few months then years between jobs. :)
Update Florida was an example of an update that had unintended consequences in the form of collateral damage. I think they've learned since then as nothing on that scale has ever happened again. Google tests different SERPs and algos every day. They're pretty good at chopping trees. ;)
