Hello Everybody,
I am doing directory submission, article submission & social bookmarking for our site (Gifts Theme). My site is 1 year old and I am doing directory submission, article submission & social bookmarking from last one year but it ranks on Yahoo.co.uk but not in Google.co.uk. So can anyone suggest me the ways to get higher ranking in Google.co.uk. Any help will be appreciable.

Thanks & Regards
Adonis

Social bookmark links don't count for squat as far as i can tell. Not a single one ever shows up in WMT link profile. Blogs still count (I think), but perhaps less so than before. I don't have a blog on my site so I get a limited amount of blog links. I even instituted a free image use policy for blogs if they add a text link back and they still don't do it. Blogs link mostly to other blogs, news, etc...not to commercial sites.

ashanka has it right. It's a lot of work to get really quality links. You need to get acquainted with the other people in your field and find ways to help them out. Writing something positive about their site or something on their site will get them in the mood to return the favor.

I don't know what to suggest for commercial sites. People are unlikely to link to a commercial page but if you also have valuable information on the site they will be more likely to link to that.

You won't get mass links this way but you will get more valuable links and links that will more likely send people to your site.

further to annej, ecommerce is a reasonably level field- apart from the big boys, everyone struggles to get links. You don't have to get as many links as an info site, just more links (or better value links) than your competitors.

And unique content. That helps.

And helpful info "Widget Buyers guide" is good.

nandalinnaung, no offense but you do realize the big G will start discounting social media sites too? It's only a matter of time. Just like people abused meta tags and now they're discounted. People abused directories so now they're discounted. I suspect blogs, social bookmark sites, etc. will be next. May as well take the links now while it's still working though :-) But in the long run continue to get one-way links from related niche sites.

Well then what is gonna count , as they are eliminating every avenue ?

Business will be pushed to paid advertising.

For all the rest forget about search engine listings and think about a situation where users are plugging into knowledge networks where relevant results are organized around themes, and rated accordingly. We'll eventually end up paying for access to the best networks too!

"Write & post quality content on your site,

Ask others to write and publish about your site on their sites/ blogs etc.

Not an easy task but, works everytime. "

Exactly.

ask a highly trafficked blogger or webmaster to let you guest post on their site linking back to your site; ensure you put out your best content, so you have the best chance of driving targeted traffic from that link.

Some different ways for getting one way links are:

Submit your site to major directories, such as Yahoo! and DMOZ.org, in the appropriate category.
Submit articles to article directories.
Publish articles on your site and invite other sites to publish them on their sites, with a link to you.
Participate in forums which allow a text link to your site in a signature.
Get listed in business directories.

I use social bookmarking, blog commenting, and then utilize squidoo, hubpages, blogspot, wiki pages, google knol..etc.

I also do directory submissions but google seems to give less weightage to these nowadays...
