Backlinks taking longer and longer to kick in

Is it me or are links now taking months and months?

Seems to me that backlinks now take much longer than they did in the past, and that time is increasing...at LEAST three months for an effect now, maybe as much as six months for a full effect. Does that match what others have experiences or am I going dolally?

They seem to be working faster than ever.

Do you have a brand new site?

I read the effect is delayed by google and it takes 3 months before google value them.

I think this must be the way, to prevent abuse.

I think it depends on the quality of the link. I've seen a singular outgoing link on a quality site producing a benefit within days, but links in blogs, directories, etc. where there are several links per page, can take months.
