Where to blog? Your server or another?

Does where the link comes from matter....

Let's throw a situation out there and see what everyone's thoughts are. I have heard two different points of view on this.

I have a site. Home Page PR 4.
Should I set up a blog on this site via wordpress?

OR

Should I go with blogger and set up a blog there that will have NO PR and much less traffic.
------------------------
While the onsite blog will get more traffic and probably higher PR, it still comes from the same server I am creating links to.

The offside blog will have a less PR, but will have links coming from an external server to mine.

SO, which would be best for getting quality inbound links? Or am I just knit-picking here? :)

I like having the blog on my site, increasing my content...

I would add the blog to your existing site, providing they're related :-) Bigger is generally better when it comes to sites.
