Still Worth Investing In TextLinkAds?

Are they worth the money?

Good evening all,
A client came to me wanting to buy some links, specifically TextLinkAds and if they are worth the money and to a lesser extent, the effort. I realize a lot of people were hit back in October for link buying and I was wondering what the deal is with them now, a few months later.

Also have there been any noticeable changes to any of the paid directories like Best of the Web since then?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

I think I see a familiar WebmasterWorld face on their promotional video on their home page... :)

I've seen their testimonials but I know some of those SEO companies have been pushing them for a while so I wasn't sure if they are still worth it or not. Has anyone used them lately?

I've been using them for over a year now. I can definitely say that I haven't been penalized by any of the big 4 search engines. I just broke into 100s on my main keywords and gaurantee my fault is in backlinks (quantity). FYI, my category is EXTREMELY competitive and includes major players (I'm hoping to carve out a niche of loyal fans).

The only problem is the expense. I can't quite bring myself to pay hundreds of dollars a month in order to get the amount of quality links I need (links from sites on TLA vary from $10-$150/mo and from 1 or a handful of links throughout the site to thousands).

Seems to be no negative side effects, but doesn't look to be cost effective.

Thanks for the info. Thankfully I am working with a client where money isn't much of a problem.

If you have the time to research, the best thing to do is find variations of all of your keywords, and go through the top 20 websites and approach them manually, telling them exactly what you need. That way you are likely to get the link you want which will bring relevant traffic and also a ranking benefit when done right.

Unfortunately, that is the problem, time. I plan on doing a mixture, say half on TLA and the remaining half by going through and doing it manually.

Thanks for all the help!
