One of my clients has a set of five sites that really need to link back and forth to make them work, but does not want the links to reciprocate. Will placing rel="nofollow" on the links in one direction solve the problem? Has anyone tried this and has it worked?

I've linked a number of sites together to provide helpful traffic to one another and I've use rel="nofollow" so I can get the traffic without being perceived as manipulating the search results. I also have blogs that provide links to other sites in each blog post and use a rel="nofollow" for the same reason. So far, no problems.

Hey guys, i thought that the idea about Link Exchanging was always to "manipulating the search results" so why people go in defense mode when they say they want to exchange links but they don't want to "manipulating the search results".

It's not always about search engines, I would quite happily exchange links with the New York Times, ebay, the BBC etc and exclude my site from all search engines :)
