What are the top ways to get one-way links in 2006?

By one-way I don't mean those "one-way link exchanges" where site A links to site B in exchange for a link from site C, I mean one-way links with no exchanges involved period, no SEO directories, no article submissions to generic article sites, just genuine, one-way links from on-topic websites.

One method I know some link developers have had success with is requesting links and offering some kind of content instead, does anyone have more detail as to how that could be done well?

Getting on the front page of Digg, reddit, netscape or del.icio.us works pretty good these days.

Jeremy, buying links is an option (but keep the buys relevant - dont buy from 3rd parties that promise to buy links for you.. buy from the specific site you are getting the link from when able). Also link exchange is works fine for our clients but keep the volume realistic and relevancy is super key.

We also have a few clients having success by joining organizations for their industry - organizations typically have a member page where you can get a relevant link just obviously make sure you only join organizations related to your market segment or industry. if you aren't sure how to find these search "your-industry-keyword + association (or) organization". Also I found searching "corporate sponsor + your-industry-keyword" also helps you find industry organizations that accept sponsorships. Hope this helps.
